Significance of 316

Of course everyone’s mind jumped straight to John 3:16 in relation to the title of the most recent episode of Lost. However, a thought occurred to me: Genesis 3:16 is also a very significant verse! It comes right after Adam and Eve eat the forbidden fruit, when God is expelling them from the garden of Eden. It reads as follows:

“To the woman he [God] said, ‘I will surely multiply your pain in childbearing; in pain you shall bring forth children. Your desire shall be for your husband, and he shall rule over you.'” (ESV)

Childbearing–a huge problem on the island, as we are all well aware. It doesn’t seem like a stretch to me to connect the title to this verse any more than to connect it to John 3:16. Pain in childbirth as a result of sin…what caused childbearing on the island to result in pain/death?

Interesting. Perhaps the island is punishing it’s inhabitants for something they did. Or maybe it’s punishing them for remaining under the leadership of Ben? We know that the pregnancy issue isn’t a top priority as stated by Richard. Richard believes that it is a waste of time, so it would appear to me that Ben is using his role to pretty much make everyone follow his selfish mission. My question would have to be this…If the pregnancy problem is relatively new then why isn’t Richard concerned with it? Does he know what is causing it? Help me please to understand this show!!!!

Maybe Richard isn’t concerned because he’s seen the problem come and go before? Also, we pretty much assume that Richard is a good guy, and that his intentions are always good, but how do we know that? Maybe they should research the pregnancy problem, maybe not. Maybe children that are both conceived AND born on the island grow up to be like Richard, so he doesn’t want any competition. Or maybe they end up “special” like Walt. Why would Ben want so badly to have children born on the island? What would he gain from it?? Because surely there is some ulterior motive. (And I have no idea what that motive would be!)

Yes, i do assume that Richard is a good guy, if it turns out otherwise then he is a wonderful actor. In the episode Jughead Richard approaches Daniel and says it’s not us that started this “friend” and he goes on to explain why the army was attacked. That just comes off as genuine to me. I do believe that children born on the Island do grow to have special abilities, take Miles for instance. In Walt’s case perhaps he was born near another one of these special energy spots who knows, do you Anna? I know you do, stop hiding it! Whatever reason Ben has for wanting this issue resolved he appears to be the driving force and is dragging everyone else along could be sme personal experience or it could be guilt because he is the one causing it.

I noticed that you will get some form of the number 316 whenever you take the square root of odd powers of ten.

    sqrt(10^5)=316.227766

    I thought it was cool…

Interesting, Frogurt. And that repeating 22, 77, 66…a loop of sorts?
